Ford vehicles are known for offering innovative technology at a budget-friendly price. Ford SYNC is a great example of this. If you are driving an older vehicle with a previous version of Ford SYNC, you may be wondering if it’s possible to upgrade to a more current version. A common question we are asked at the Weber Ford service center is, “Can I upgrade Ford SYNC to SYNC3?
Unfortunately, an older SYNC system cannot be upgraded to a newer one. This is because the systems use different hardware, and that hardware cannot be exchanged. However, that does not mean you can’t update your SYNC system to ensure you are getting all of the benefits it provides for your drives in St. Louis and Collinsville. Learn how to “SYNC my ride” and how to update your SYNC system in the guide below from Weber Ford.
We are often asked how to start using the Ford SYNC feature. To take advantage of SYNC, you will need to connect a Bluetooth-enabled device to your vehicle. You will need to know which generation of SYNC your vehicle has, as the directions will vary slightly. You can go the the SYNC and Navigation Updates page and enter your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) or log in with your Ford credentials. Your vehicle’s SYNC generation will appear on the right-hand side of the page.
Note: Before you begin the process, ensure that your vehicle is on and running in a well-ventilated area. The vehicle should be in “Park.”
Make sure Bluetooth has been enabled, and press the “Phone” button. Follow the prompts that pop up on your screen to complete the process.
While you may not be able to upgrade the system, you can update it.
You can then choose whether to update your vehicle via USB or Wi-Fi.
If you are using the most current version of SYNC, you will see a green checkmark and a message stating that no updates are available.
